Founder’s Story

In 1985, Lucienne Duncan, a widow and resident of the Lamardelle area, wanted to reunite her community in the aftermath of multiple conflicts. In an effort to promote faith and moral values, she donated half an acre of land and built the Enfant Jesus Christian Church.

Continuing to fulfill her dream, the Enfant Jesus School was built. She began the school with 50 children and within a short time, she was providing school for over 300 children in the chapel and in her personal resident. She and her husband personally funded the school for over 17 years.

In 2000, she donated land to build a 14,000 square feet orphanage for abandoned children, Creche Enfant Jesus. In 2006 she then donated another half acre of land to build a new school compound offering an international standard of education and two meals a day for more than 500 children from the village. In 2009 she gave a piece of land to build the community clinic, and all the children and families have access to a quality health care.
