First Community Project of the Lamardelle Women’s Association.
On Monday May 2, 2016, "Asosyasyon Fanm Lamardelle pou Remambre Lavi" (AFLAREL) initiated its first community event as an association. This association that originated within the beneficiaries of FEJ’s women’s empowerment program called Chache Lavi (CLV) has two main goals:
1). Sustainable community development and 2). Protection of the environment
To symbolically inaugurate the official launching of AFLAREL, a ribbon was cut by the CLV family, including association members Madam Rashidi Occelin and Myrayard Alorient.
The association’s first event gathered 140 community members that included members of CLV, the children of Enfant Jesus School and members of local associations: LEA and AJPTE. This community project had the goal of picking up all the roadside trash, starting from the community of Jacquet to Dame Marie.
The task seemed small at first but it proved to be a huge undertaking. There was so much waste, we removed about 100 bags of debris. The participants were so proud, enthusiast and dedicated, even when they had limited materials to do the work. This experience was considered as a big success for the association that will be very useful to them as they plan in the future other positive actions to bring the community together to protect their environment.
This cleaning activity has been successful with the help of the CLV beneficiaries, FEJ staff and local leaders. Very special thanks goes out to LEA and AJPTE, our local organisation partners who contributed their equipment to the project. This event was a great example of positive results that can be obtained when people come together and put efforts in the interest of their community.
